Yves Saint Laurent, Across the Style

The National Art Center, Tokyo hosts the first major retrospective of Yves Saint Laurent’s work in Japan held since his death, in full association with the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris.

Highlights of “Yves Saint Laurent, Across the Style”

At 14, Yves Saint Laurent dreamed of having his own maison de couture.

Yves Saint Laurent made a spectacular debut as Dior’s designer in 1958, following the sudden death of Christian Dior. He was 21 years old.

Then he successfully launched his first collection under his own brand “Yves Saint Laurent” and established his own unique style.

This show sheds light on Yves Saint Laurent’s 40 years of work in 12 chapters, with approximately 300 items including 110 looks, accessories, drawings, and photographs.

Yves Saint Laurent, Across the Style

The theme of the exhibition, “Across the Style,” comes from Yves Saint Laurent’s own words, “La mode passe, le style reste (Fashion passes, style remains).”

The show allows visitors to immerse themselves in the world of Yves Saint Laurent’s mode, to gain insight into his perpetual quest of his style, freely changing themes and expressions across the seasons.
