The much-awaited show by Kazuo Umezu (“Umezz”) opened on 28 January at Tokyo City View.
A sneak preview revealed a new artistic ground of the multi-talented manga master, full of colours and possibilities.
Kazuo Umezz The Great Art Exhibition
The show features four major works by Kazuo Umezz: “The Drifting Classroom“, “I am Shingo“, “Fourteen” and his latest “ZOKU-SHINGO: Little Robot Shingo’s Art Museum” to be shown for the first time to the public.

◆ “ZOKU-SHINGO: Little Robot Shingo’s Art Museum”
The latest work by Kazuo Umezz, “ZOKU-SHINGO: Little Robot Shingo’s Art Museum” is a sequel to “I am Shingo“.
However, it is not a manga, but a series of 101 acrylic pictures, each representing a scene.
“Zoku-Shingo” in fact is a set of narrative paintings to make a whole new fantastic world of Umezz.
◆ Installations with themes of Umezz’s works
In addition to the dynamic set up by exonemo at the entrance hall, the installations realized by Yuma Tomiyasu and Tomoko Konoike expand the world of Umezz.
◆ Poster by Umezz for the 2022 Angoulême International Comics Festival
In 2018, Kazuo Umezu won the “Heritage Award (Prix du patrimoine)” of the Angoulême International Comics Festival (le Festival International de la Bande Dessinée d’Angoulême) for his “I am Shingo”.
The award was no small event, for it gave a renewed creative energy to the artist who had ceased to publish manga for some time.
And the Angoulême Festival commissioned Umezz to design the poster for the 2022 festival, scheduled to take place for the 49th time from 17 to 22 March.
Just outside the gallery on the same floor is a pleasant café named “THE SUN & THE MOON”.
Find out what the café with panoramic views has in store for Umezz fans.
A masterpiece we found here is Umezz’s house that represents his home so delightfully.
