The National Art Center, Tokyo hosts an art show dedicated to Henri Matisse (1869-1954) – a versatile artist, painter and sculptor, and one of the greatest masters in the 20th century.
Highlights of “Henri Matisse – Forms in Freedom”
This show gathers approximately 150 pieces of art works and archival materials of Henri Matisse, mainly on loan from the Musée Matisse in Nice, France.
On view are the French master’s paintings, sculptures, prints, decorative design works and the cut-paper art.
The show composed of five sections traces the artist’s career from his early years through the final stage featuring the Chapelle du Rosaire de Vence.
The star attractions include “Flowers and Fruits” (1952-1953) travelling from the Nice museum to Japan for the first time, as well as the reproduction of the Vence Chapel’s interior design.
