Located in a quiet residential area of Komagome, Rikugien is one of the most important “daimyo gardens” dating from the Edo Period. Yoshiasyu Yanagisawa, an advisor favoured by the fifth shogun Tsunayoshi Tokugawa, designed the garden to express the universe of the traditional Japanese poetry. Maintaining the original landscape features, Rikugien has been designated as a special site of exceptional beauty and an important cultural asset.In addition to the renowned azaleas and weeping cherry trees, the garden is well known for its beautiful autumn foliage.
