Mount Takao Autumn Leaves Festival
1 – 30 November 2015
Easily accessible by train from central Tokyo, Mount Takao (600 meters above the sea level) is covered with a rich variety of trees including very old beeches, giving shelter to many birds and small animals. There are seven trails for a great hike to enjoy the scenery including a waterfall and a suspended bridge. Takao Yakuo-in Temple is located on a hillside. Some cafes and soba noodle restaurants dot the pathways. The mountain is served by a funicular (cable car) line and chairlifts. Nowadays an increasing number of foreign visitors are attracted, due certainly to the three stars bestowed by the green Michelin guide…
In November the Mountain shines in a thousand shades of red, orange and yellow. The best time to visit is from mid-November until the end. Some of the best sites for autumn foliage are: the strip along the funicular, the hill-top, the surroundings of Yakuo-in temple and the Momiji-dai. You can also have a pretty view of coloured leaves, looking down from the chairlift.
The festival of autumn leaves will take place from 1 to 30 November 2015. Several activities will be organized on weekends and public holidays around the funicular station Kiyotake; as well as the sale of sake in masu (rectangular cup made of wood) and the demonstration of Tokyo Kokeshi by the station Juichi-chome-Chaya.
