Marunouchi Illumination 2016
10 November 2016 – 19 February 2017
Marunouchi Nakadori street, Otemachi Nakadori street, around Tokyo station
Marunouchi, located on the west side of Tokyo Station, used to be a typical Japanese business district, rather sober and rather … masculine. Today, the area has been refurbished and has a new commercial facet. Modern high-rises have appeared after the demolition of old buildings, now accommodating a variety of shops, stylish restaurants and cafes, besides usual offices. Its main street “Marunouchi Nakadori” has been redeveloped as a high-fashion avenue lined with luxury-brand boutiques.
This winter, Marunouchi area will be lit elegantly again in golden shades of sparkling wine with more than one million LEDs. For the 15th edition, Marunouchi Illumination will be extended to cover Otemachi Nakadori street, along which now stands a luxury Japanese-style hotel “Hoshinoya Tokyo”, opened this summer in July 2016.
Besides, the event is organized in an eco-friendly manner. In addition to ordinary LEDs, 480,000 “Eco-Illumination” LED bulbs have been added to reduce the total energy consumption. All the power used to light up the main street is “green”, coming from solar and wind power.
Why not visiting to discover Tokyo’s trendy district during the occasion of winter lights?
