Treasures from Budapest: European and Hungarian Masterpieces
A number of fantastic paintings and art works will travel to Tokyo from Budapest, the capital of Hungary and a stronghold of European art and culture. The exhibition will showcase some 130 works on loan from the Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest and the Hungarian National Gallery.
The displays feature European and Hungarian masterpieces – paintings, drawings and sculptures – covering the period from the Renaissance through the early 20th century.
What not to miss of the Treasures from Budapest show in Tokyo
The show is in two parts in chronological order. The first part is from the Renaissance through the 18th century, and the second part encompasses the 19th and 20 centuries.
The exhibits include wonderful works by European maestros, as well as the 19th and 20th century Hungarian masters that are rarely shown in Japan.
Among the highlights are works by Lucas Cranach the Elder, Tiziano Vecellio or Titian, El Greco, Renoir and Monet.
The star attractions among the Hungarian artists’ works include: “Lady in Violet” – used as the poster image of this show – by Szinyei Merse Pál; and paintings by Munkácsy Mihály, Markó Károly the Elder and Csontváry Kosztka Tivadar.*
