Tokyo Islands Fair “Shima-jiman 2016”
Takeshiba Pier/ Takeshiba Passenger Ship Terminal
28 -29 May 2016
Tokyo is vast. Did you know that the capital city goes far beyond the urban area, covering subtropical and tropical islands and islets of Izu and Ogasawara, stretching over more than 1000 km southward in the Pacific Ocean?
Tokyo’s major gateway to these islands is the Takeshiba Pier, where passenger boats and ferries stop by. There, the biannual Tokyo Islands Fair will await you for discovery of this least explored part of Tokyo!
So even without (or before) visiting Izu or Ogasawara, you may like to try the gourmet and other speciality products from the region. The stands also offer tourist information, ranging from UNESCO’s World Heritage site (Ogasawara), the rich nature, spas and onsen (hot springs), to a variety of marine activities.
The stage will be full of entertaining shows and talks. The icing on the cake this year is a special two-day lecture that will be given by Sakana-kun – a popular TV personality and ichthyologist (fish scientist), who will take you to the wonder of the deep blue sea.
