Tokyo Anime Award Festival (TAAF), succeeding to the awards section of the former Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF), celebrates its third year in 2016 as an independent event.

Ingenious animation works and unique creators get together under the “Festival”. The “Awards” will be granted to: excellent short and feature animation films from Japan and abroad; a Japanese animation work that was broadcasted last year and made a significant impact; and Japanese persons who made excellent contribution to the development of animation. The last category, “Animation Merit Award”, this year will be conferred to 10 people including Shigeru Mizuki, beloved cartoonist famous for his works of yokai (Japanese specters), who unfortunately passed away last year.

Award winning films and hottest picks will be screened during the four-day programme. Check the event’s website for more information.
