For many, autumn is the best time of the year for enjoying arts. This year again, “Roppongi Art Night”, Tokyo’s all-night cultural extravaganza, is coming on a weekend in October. Vibrant and cosmopolitan, the area of Roppongi has a high concentration of commercial and cultural institutions, such as Roppongi Hills, Tokyo Midtown and National Art Center, Tokyo. A roundup of art exhibitions and music, dance and theatrical performances will take place all over Roppongi – museums, parks, streets, crossings, shops…. For the 2016 edition, Roppongi will be transformed into an “Amusement Park of Arts”.
The Night proposes several thematic tours for the visitors:
In the “Main Programme”, find, across Roppongi, installations created under the direction of Kohei Nawa, a sculptor and the main guest artist of the year.
Under the “Extended Area Programme” two performances will be staged across the town: « FierS à Cheval » (Proud Horse) by the Compagnie des Quidams (France) and “Tokyo Caravan” led by Hideki Noda, a popular director. The latter has been launched in preparation for the artistic programme of the Olympic Games “Tokyo 2020”.
Under “Machinaka* Installation” and “Machinaka* Performance”, discover pop-up installations as well as dance, music and theater performances, while strolling about the area.
Likewise, many special events will be organized by the participating museums and institutions, such as an all-night exhibition of Mori Art Museum. In October 2016, Roppongi Art Night will be as exciting as ever!
