    Tokyo Midtown


    In spring, about 150 cherry trees go in full bloom at Tokyo Midtown, together with the adjacent Hinokicho Park (Minato-ku).

    To celebrate cherry blossom and also the tenth anniversary of Tokyo Midtown on 30 March, a series of events will be organized under the banner “spring of hospitality”.

    Illuminated cherry trees
    The cherry blossoms lining Sakura Street, a stretch of some 200 meters, will be lit up in different shades of colours according to the extent of flower blossoming. At night the illuminated cherry trees create even more fantastic atmosphere, which may also be enjoyed from above, from some of Midtown’s restaurants.

    Feel like sipping something nice under the cherry trees? Go for rose sparkling wine or original sakura cocktails in the garden, with delightful appetizers and sweets crafted in the theme of cherry blossom by Franck-Elie Laloum, Executive Sous Chef of the Ritz-Carlton Tokyo.

    Planting of cherry trees
    Of some 150 existing cherry trees, 48 Somei Yoshino cherry trees had been inherited from the former Defense Agency, on the site of which Tokyo Midtown was constructed. Did you know that the life of the Somei Yoshino cherry tree lasts only for some 60 years? In order to pass down the place’s memory, their saplings will be planted on Tokyo Midtown’s 10th anniversary. You can also participate in this memorable event!

    Message Flower
    In celebration of the 10th anniversary, a white gerbera daisy (“hope” in the flower language) will be presented to each of the first 300 visitors, accompanied by classical music.

    “Edo Fuji” (10th anniversary event)
    Under the theme “JAPAN, THE BEAUTIFUL”, a miniature Fuji Mountain (about 5 meters tall, 15 meters in diameter), a monument symbolizing Japan, will appear in the lawn area. The Mount Fuji will be produced by Seijun Nishihata (the “plant hunter”), with special effects using the latest technology realized by Rhizomatiks Architecture and NAKED Inc.
