Happo-en – find refreshing moments in a beautiful Japanese garden

  • Happo-en

Located in an upscale residential area in Tokyo, Happo-en is a popular wedding venue, known for its vast and beautiful Japanese garden (going back to the early Edo period in the 17th century). Visitors may stroll through the garden freely and leisurely. Relax, have tea or dine at this manicured estate full of traditional ambiance, rich in nature, away from urban hustle and bustle, yet easily accessible.

The landscaped garden is ornamented with a koi carp pond, “Bonsai Road” (some of the bonsais are more than 500 years old), a Japanese tea house, as well as a Shinto shrine. Its look changes according to the seasons, with cherry blossoms, tender green leaves and autumn leaves. Also, chances are that you may meet just-wed couples clad in wedding costumes and taking photos in the picturesque natural setting.

At the tea house “Muan”, try matcha tea with delicate Japanese sweets, or experience tea ceremony in a casual style. You may also opt for coffee or lunch at “Thrush Café” (with a terrace) and the Japanese restaurant “Enju”, overlooking the garden (reservation recommended).

If you care for activities, how about “garden walk” (guided walk followed by a meal; weekdays only) or traditional cultural experiences (flower arrangement, tea ceremony, etc.)? Check out also frequent events organized by Happo-en, such as: cherry blossom festival, summer festival, autumn leaves light ups, tea parties, concerts, sake and wine events and feasts with geishas!
