Savour sumptuous course dinners and deserts inspired by “Marie-Antoinette” exhibition, currently held at Mori Arts Center Gallery (article in Japanese).
It often happens nowadays that museum restaurants and cafes offer special menus in tribute to art exhibitions. But none seems to match the opulence of culinary sequels to the on-going “Marie-Antoinette” exhibition.
For one thing, the aristocratic extravagance and fabulous costumes of the heroin could amply feed the culinary imagination of talented chefs. For another, her life at the French court has a special resonance in Japan, thanks to the popular manga “the Rose of Versailles” and its adaptation by the celebrated all-female theatre Takarazuka. Add this the effect of Sofia Coppola’s 2006 film “Marie Antoinette” that decorated the Château de Versailles with pastel-coloured Ladurée macarons and pastries. Like to see the 2006 film for starters, perhaps (to be screened at Hills’ Toho Cinemas, from 4 to 17 November)?
