Blissful New Year at Kyu-Shiba-rikyu Garden
2-3 January 2016
Start New Year at Kyu-Shiba-rikyu Garden to the tune of a blissful Japanese music called sambaso, performed by the Korakuan. The garden maintains, until today, some traits of daimyo garden (landscaped garden of feudal lords) of the Edo Period. Sambaso is a dance of prayer for good harvest, found among the repertoires of Noh and Kabuki, as well as performing arts throughout Japan. In the garden, you’ll also find New Year’s traditional games to try out, and for your kids, a photo stand to take their pictures in hanten, a kind of kimoto jacket.
