  • Autumn in the Kyu-Furukawa Garden

    18 November – 3 December 2017
    Kyu-Furukawa Garden

The Kyu-Furukawa Tei’en is a rare surviving example of a garden created in the early Taisho period in the 1910s. A Western-style house on the hilltop and a Western-style garden on the hillside were designed by the English architect Josiah Conder (1852 – 1920). At the base of the hill is a Japanese garden created by Jihei Ogawa, a Japanese landscaper (1860 – 1933).

This syncretic-style estate looks even more beautiful in autumn, when leaves turn orange, red and yellow. Special events such as concerts of the Tsugaru shamisen and the biwa will further create a vibrant atmosphere in the garden.
