    The present exhibition features a series of photographic works of Tokyo by Raymond Depardon, a renowned French photographer and a member of Magnum Photo, which is dubbed the agency of the world’s best photographers. Depardon has accomplished a number of important works in photojournalism, including the report of the Chad civil war that won him the Pulitzer Prize. He is also known for his photographic works capturing beautiful landscapes and people around the world. Since 1974 he has worked on film production and has earned high acclaim worldwide as a director of documentary films.

    ◆ Tokyo 1964 – 2016 by Raymond Depardon

    Depardon visited the Japanese capital for the first time in 1964 to cover the Tokyo Olympic Games, taking more than 2,000 monochrome photographs. They show the photographer’s remarkable sense of composition, sharp observation and sensibilities.

    Since then, he stopped by Tokyo several times and took its photo. His latest visit took place in 2016, when he captured in colour photos the city that looks forward to the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

    *During the exhibition period, his documentary films will be shown elsewhere in the capital (at Theater Image Forum and Institut Franco-Japonais). Together with this exhibition, they offer an excellent insight into the world of the seasoned photographer-filmmaker.
